St Mary’s Legacy Policy

The policy of the Parochial Church Council of St Mary’s Abbotskerswell is to use legacies to fund development projects in the parish. As circumstances change over the years, it may not be possible to fulfil specific requests of donors, so people are encouraged to leave legacies for the general purposes of the parish.  The Parochial Church Council will discuss with executors the most appropriate use of any legacy in the light of current projects and the donor’s known areas of interest in the church.

Charities we are supporting in 2016

As a Church, we think it is only right that we support other organisations who seek to serve people in our community and further afield.  This year the charities we are mainly supporting are:

International

Water Aid

National

The Royal British Legion

The Children's Society

Local

Rowcroft Hospice

THAT (Teignbridge Homeless Action Today Foodbank)

Parish Giving Scheme

The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) has been set up to help parishes best manage their regular donations.

The scheme is flexible and is able to fit a range of patterns of giving.  Donations can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis by direct debit using using a PGS gift form.  Even though donations are made to PGS, donations are restricted to the parish chosen by the donor and cannot be used elsewhere.

Importantly, the donation, including any Gift Aid, will be passed back to the parish of the donors choosing within ten days of collection.  This is done automatically without any further administration by the parish.

The unique feature of the Scheme is the option of the donor to commit in principle to increase their gift annually in line with inflation.  Whilst this is a voluntary decision it is one that could potentially have a huge impact on the life and future of the church.

St Mary’s has now registered for the Scheme and anyone who is interested in taking up this method of regular giving can contact the Treasurer for more information.
